Window tint - any recommendations?
#1
Hi all. I want to apply a tinting film to my rear passenger windows.
There are a lot of different brands available. I'm just wondering whether some are easier to apply than others?
Please let me know your thoughts / experiences and which brands you find easier to apply (and ones to avoid).

I'm generally pretty good at practical / DIY matters - but I always end up getting air-bubbles when I apply a screen protector to my mobile phone! lol

I'd have to recommend getting a tint firm to do it. I tried several times and it never turns out right, the basic trick is to get an even coat of soapy water on the glass then using pre-cut tints, smooth the soap out using a felt spreader. Being an engineer, I consider myself very competent at making things with precision and being good at practical tasks but found window tinting frustratingly difficult.

3M films are always high quality but more than 80% of the task is in the prep and application of it, also the right tools, heat gun etc.

The big issue is that no automotive glass is actually flat, and all tint films are. That means wrinkles, with high end films being heat shrinkable or pliable. It takes skills in doing tints to get it right. Not a task that goes well on the first few attempts for anyone I think.
