Overhaul
#1
My timing belt snapped on me. I want to remove the cylinder head myself to investigate the damage that has been caused to the pistons etc as I can't really afford to throw any more money at it if the engine is a write off! It's a 2004 Berlingo Multispace 1.9 Diesel.
Haynes Manual says that the whole engine and transmission have to be removed from the car for this to be done! Does anyone know if this is correct or can I get the head off from under the bonnet to investigate the extent of the damage?

Does no body know the answer to this?

I never put too much faith in Haynes manuals.
Get the spanners out and start undoing things, you have nothing to lose.

Thanks Solent. I did just that.
Then realised that I was looking in the wrong section to be fair to Haynes! Feel a bit stupid :-(

I would have thought that it is possible to remove the head without taking out the engine?
