[Engine] Cam Shaft
#1
I have stripped down my Cylinder Head for an overhaul due to a snapped timing belt. (First time ever, novice)
I have 2 broken parts which I am unsure as to whether can or should be replaced individually.

The first is the middle Cam Shaft Bearing Cap, (photo attached), (Haynes manual says that if these are broken a new cylinder head must be bought!) I can't believe this, they appear standard cast iron parts, but on line suppliers don't recognise them in their catalogue.

The second part is a steel 'disk' which was located on the end of the camshaft and I think is a part of the brake vacuum pump? Photo again attached. Surely I don't have to buy a whole new vacuum pump for this!

Anyone know if and where I can buy these 2 parts?

The camshaft bearing caps cannot be replaced, as you say its a new head job. The reason is they are in line board with the caps bolted to the head. However if you can find a scrap head i would take a chance and fit one, making sure it does not bind the camshaft, you may have to try different caps?

As for the ring im not sure if you can obtain a new one, have you tried Citroen? If you cant get one its a scraper again.

It's true sadly. They're line-board in the head, and if broken, you need a new head. One off a running breaker should be ok and not cost the earth though.

I know this through bitter experience of snapped timing belts on 1.9 Xantias and ZXs. They don't half make a mess when they break at 90+ mph :O

Found a fully recon cylinder head for £140 +p&p on Ebay after your comments guys!
Awaiting delivery, but would have cost this for the camshaft, 3 bent valves & scrappy bearing cap and a whole lot of work saved! And it has been skimmed and pressure tested!
Cheers- Just have to replace the ring thing now!

Another question guys?
If I have 2+5 dots on engine, signifying a 1.42mm gasket required, is that imperative?
Most suppliers supply a 1.5mm gasket. (Just wondering if 8 hundredths of a mill are crucial!)
It's probably a really stupid question, but if it doesn't matter I save £40 on gasket set.

If the replacement head has been skimmed that will change that dimension anyway.

Haynes manual says that the thickness of the gasket depends on the piston protrusion. How will the reconditioned cylinder head affect this?

The 'first remove the battery' book doesn't take into account any machining done to the head.
Also, the thickness is in the compressed state. (Thickness it should have when fitted and the head is properly bolted down)

Not familiar with this eng but surely piston protrusion can be measured with a straight edge & feelers. From that there should be a formula for working out gasket thickness.Or am I off track?
