Recessed door handle safety issue
#1
Exclamation
On the earlier models with the drivers' door handle recessed into the edge of the door, owners should perhaps check for a safety issue which I encountered.

I've always felt that these recessed handles were a bit dodgy, requiring you to put your hand into the door jamb (a very bad idea at any time!) in order to grasp the handle. There is a matching recess in the rear door edge, such that if that shuts whilst your hand is there it shouldn't in principle strike you. BUT, on the upper and lower edges of this rear-door recess there are two unfinished metal projections standing out, like teeth. If either of these brushes against your hand due to a passenger unexpectedly reclosing the rear door as you reach for the front handle, you may receive a nasty cut from one of these projections, even if your hand is in the proper recess.

I'm surprised this hasn't been the subject of a manufacturer recall. I'd suggest all owners with recessed door-edge handles check for this issue and take corrective action such as folding back or removing these sharps.
