lack of revs at top end

The total pollution difference is probably minimal with EGR blanking. You have no EGR at normal cruising when you are producing a lot more exhaust gas and pollution and higher burn temperature which increases the N20 that EGR is supposed to reduce.

Do you think the remaps for power or economy don't increase the N2O output?

EGR is as much government nonsense as measuring CO output on a non-cat petrol engine at idle for MOT - it does virtually nothing for the environment because far greater quantities of exhaust is created at non-idle speeds and yet the CO could be anything.

Be careful replacing the EGR on the 1.6 HDI engine, I've had quite a few come in where they have spent the money on replacing it and it still brings up a permanent fault even after 'learning' the new EGR valve to the ECU. It's probably cheaper to blank it and get it removed properly.

The EGR delete is actually quite complex on the 1.6HDI if it's broken as the fault codes need to be found and removed from the ECU, not just a simple switch like it would be if there wasn't a fault with it.

I also had one the other day which had the EGR repeat valve giving problems, this was incorrectly diagnosed as the EGR, worth checking that too.

Whilst I respect Mikes view of keeping things original, I spoke to half a dozen friends in the motor business who all agreed that blanking off the EGR was a harmless and possibly beneficial thing to do. It seems the valve is only fitted to please the German market to slightly improve emmissions.

Anyway - I chose a specialist who blanks these off every day (clearly a common problem across all car makes) and then re-mapped the electrickery all for £150.00. All warning lights were off - YIPEE thinks me........but NO.......

Exactly the same problem persisted......lack of power and really struggling up the slightest incline.
So back to the garage who spoke to a very helpful man at Citroen. Suspicion was pointed at the Pressure Boost Valve on the turbo.
This has been replaced (another £109.00) and the problem is finally fixed - the car now really has its mojo back and pulls forward likes its being launched from a steam catapult! I'm keeping my fingers crossed but will fairly confidently let out a YIPEEE!
