Air Con
#1
Hi,

This is my first post so please be gentle with me :-)

I am the proud owner of a 2004 1.9D Berlingo (had it just under a week). Mine has a rusty oil sump so is leaking a little oil.
I have search the internet for a few sump and found 2 types. 1 for air con Berlingos and 1 for none air con Berlingos.

My Berlingo has an air con button on the dashboard which lights up when pressed but does nothing else, the engine doesn't change tone when it's pressed and you don't get any cold air.

So my quesion is, Is the air con button fitted to all Berlingos regardless of if they have aircon or not?
I gave my reg to after market parts specialist who says mine shows up as a none aircon model.

Any help really appreciated.

Aircon was an option. If yours has the light and it lights up, it's probably fitted. Look for the tell - tale alloy pipework for the aircon around the front of the engine bay and an aircon compressor down low at the front driven off a drive belt from the crank pulley. If it's all there, it's likely there's no gas pressure in the system at all which will be why the compressor isn't kicking in when you press the button. This could be because of a very minor leak and it's simply lost it over the last 10 years, or a proper leak like a hole in the condensor (like a small radiator mounted in front of the normal radiator). It's worth taking it to an aircon specialist to be regassed, they should vacuum it down then test it to see if it holds the vacuum, and it does, chances are it can be regassed and it'll work ok.

I regassed my Audi TT last week , it had exactly the same problem and I know the AC in that hasn't worked for at least 4 years..

Hi

By way of additional info on AirCon Button, I have a 1.9D multispace and no aircon or button

Check out some of the garage chains, Charlie brown (now part of quick fit used to do re gas for £30), key here will be to check and ensure there is not a leak

Hope info of use

You'll find most aircon specialists will regas it *properly* rather than take it to Halfords, Kwik-fit etc. I've a properly qualified friend with the correct machine who did the Audi. It needs to be all vac'd down, the oil removed, held under vacuum to check for leaks, refilled.. and you need to turn the taps on the machine off and run the AC to draw the rest of the gas in when the system is "full". Quite a few things the fast - fit places missed..

thanks for getting back to me, when I press the aircon button it lights up, in the end I purchased the non aircon oil sump and luckily it fitted perfectly so whilst my Berlingo has an air con button that lights up, it isn't fitted.

how weird. I am so loving my Berlingo

If it has A/C, in the engine bay you would be able to see the aluminium tubes with their charging ports feeding the condensor. Normally on models without it the 'button' would be blank and not a switch as such so I'm suprised if you don't have it fitted.
