Tablet in dash for the Berlingo
#1
This is my first one , i will appologize first if i miss any on english i know how to read it write it but i dont have the best grammar ever .

This thread is about how do i placede a tablet instead a head unit on a Berlingo 2014 van that i will be modifing little by little .

OK first the first , this van came with nothing but the front head liner power windows and thast it i have added thru a company the side windows and i have solve the problem with the stereo this way , installing a removable tablet in the dash , also for now i have 2 jbl gto 638 speakers in the front and also an amp jbl as well

At first i was using the phone to get the music thru a bluetooth device Logitech Bluetooth audio adapter and from there rca cables to the amp .

Advantages of this set up its that u just take it out when u get off the car , u have gps , video player if u need to wait for some one and u get bored lol ! also radio music and a million apps that will interact with the obd on the vehicle

The tablet used is a 1st gen Asus Nexus 7 , this tablet will fit if u wanna placed it behind the dash and leave it as permannet but due to insecurity in my country i rather take it on and off when im not in the car

well enough with the words let me place some pictures

I've thought about doing this a few times as I've a few spare iPad Mini's. I was thinking about mounting mine vertically so I could have the power set into the fibreglass at the bottom (rather than power plug as you have it from the side.

I currently have a Parrot Asteroid Tablet and it's cool but the Android OS is fairly poor... http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/astero...id-tablet/

I'd do it if I would figure out some way of connecting the iPad to a my phone and a speaker/mic for hands free...

I thimk it will be better if you do it with your upads they have better sound output ans the OS its 100 times better than any others ! its fairly simple to do it but wiring can be tricky , was also my first time doing fiberglass too , i have a second part of the project that is on the wait since i need tha back up camera that i will try to install it direct to the tablet and charging at the same time

Nice work - I've wondered about doing similar, but non-destructively (I'm a wimp!)

There are brackets that will clip into the CD player slot in the stereo that are supposed to work pretty well, but I'd be concerned about the GPS reception for sat nav. I have the heat reflecting screen in my multispace, and my phone works OK as a sat nav in the corner of the windscreen but has occasional "where am I" moments, but I know from reviews of it that this phone has a very good GPS receiver. The GPS crash cam I got will only receive if it's right up at the top behind the rear view mirror. So I'd be doubtful about any tablet working when it's part obscured by the dash and the roof above it.

The Android is a tablet and I run TomTom on it fine. Interested to see tablet clips that go into the CD, that sounds cool.

There are loads on google and elsewhere, of varying prices and quality.

Many have a fairly long reach arm though, as lots of cars have the CD slot on an angled part of the dash. This is needed so it can be vertical on a car with a sloped dash. As the Berlingo's is vertical you'd want it as short as possible.

Look at this puppy...

This connects an iPad to the car via the double din gap. The bracket connected to the car audio and provides power.

If you have a 3G/4G iPad then you'd have all you would ever need...

Hi guys,
The gps on the tablet work awesome i use Sigyc nav just because you don’t need to be connected to the internet to have the navigation going , actually we made a 3500 km trip to brazil with the family and didn’t got lost once in the whole trip , matter fact there is also the chance to use Google maps and others if you have Wi-Fi connectivity on the vehicle i have a 3g/4g dongle that provides Wi-Fi while running so there is no issues there either , i was planning on doing the cd slot thin but it sticks too far out and bounces a little bit , like Stumpie says there you have all you need on a tablet you have internet radio such as local radios or all over the world radios , also all your tunes not talking about a pen drive with 200 song I’m talking about being able to fill the tablet with 32 gb of music , movies , and whatever you want to put on it , also you have ecu control thru Bluetooth , reverse camera that it’s a bit tricky to make it work but , and to be honest the tablet it’s like 400 dollars cheaper than a 2 din with all those features.
My first thought was an ipad mini but they are 7.9” and they will be right on with the vents so I bought the nexus 7 that it’s not an ipad but does the work well.

This is how I did it using the same Nexus 7 (old version) tablet.
Ive removed the battery , the tablet is powered by a 12V->3.7Volt converter from my 2nd car battery.
I bougt the original display frame for the onboard navigation and succeeded in fitting the Nexus inside. It fits nicely without any glue if you cut a tiny bit of the plastic back cover at both sides. Even better, there 2 way communication between the nexus and the 2-din Sony radio GT90BT

The Sony app controls the Nexus which displays info of radio station, CD and song etc. Vice versa the Nexus can control the functions of the radio and transmits audio from the Nexus via bluetooth. Nice for listening to internet radio stations. I could even fit a DVB-T and DAB stick which also works nicely... However a new antenna was needed for better reception...
GPS working perfectly too. I had already fitted the pure highway before, so I have 2 dab receivers now.
The OTG adapter is connected to a powered 2A hub, which also drives the usb DVB-T freeview stick as well as providing enough power for any usb stick containing data or music. Ive fitted a usb socket for that too..
