Argh! Coil springs!

A few years back I replaced a coil spring in my mk2 Berlingo, so when I discovered a broken coil spring in my mk3 this morning I was annoyed but not troubled.  After all, how hard can it be?

Well it seems that some idiot designer has decided that the top end of the coil strut was just too accessible so they have seen fit to make it extra difficult to get to.  Not only do I have to remove some carpeting to even see the nut, it is covered by the plastic shroud at the bottom of the windscreen.  Does this come off?  Presumably, but it's not obvious where the mounting bolts are, or what else might need to come off in the process.

I think this might be my last Citroen - too many bad design decisions lead to too many problems in later life.

Colinmac, I changed both coil springs on my previous B9 on my own. I removed the wipers and plastic scuttle beneath the screen to improve access to the strut top nuts and allen screws. The felt soundproofing mat will come away with the scuttle assembly. This was no problem to me, because I was well practised, having had to remove all this and more, many times, just to get access to change the air filter! They have improved the position of the air filter box on my latest "15" plate B9, so I won't have to do so much dismantling for access in future.

hi jim. you have saved me some time, in regarding skuttle removal. i was goner take the felt off, seems i don't have to thanks............

I forgot to mention that you have to remove the 2 torx screws attaching the brake fluid reservior to the scuttle, but after removal, it can be lain down on the engine, and won't leak if the filler cap is tight.
