Thanks - Dipstick broken halfway. Tried to get tube out, undid x2 bolts but couldn't free tube from block. Have another stick from old engine which goes right in. Do i worry about the broken bit, is it too long (about 8/9in) to drop through?
I'd be tempted to take the sump off and make sure it is removed if I could not get it from the top. It would be in my mind that it could cause a problem at some point.
So where does this bit go then ?
Mine broke off and ended up in the engine but did no noticeable damage in several thousands of miles of driving. I think the new one cost about £9 from a Citroen dealer (who had 10 in stock, must be a common occurence!). I would not worry about it.

I notice that the dipstick on my new L2 90hp HDi now has a metal rod between the handle and the tip, instead of the plastic rod previously fitted (and prone to snapping!).
