Security/ Storage advice needed please
#1
I sleep in my Berlingo to help me on my way to hiking all the National Trails. I therefore have to leave my Mk111(13 reg) for a whole day. I get public transport/taxi back to the van in the evening.

I was walking the Pennine Bridleway in the Yorkshire Dales at the weekend and it occurred me a car alarm would deter and I thought also a roof box would help with storage, maybe security, but are they attacked easily or often? The vehicle is left on a village/town near a Station/or habitation of some sort. Is it wise to get my local Citroen dealer to fit these items?

I do have small safe in the car but it is fairly obvious with the bed and such that there will be some stuff of note in the vehicle and if I put up the screens in the day to stop viewing they might themselves might attract attention that there is something of value in the car- which will be bed gear and cooking items.

Opportunist thieves are generally what you will deter by having an alarm, crooklock type thing on the steering wheel and possibly on the pedals, a sticker saying a tracker is fitted ( pinch the design via the internet from a tracker company ) or even have a genuine tracker. You could consider fitting a discrete switch under the bonnet that disrupts the 12 volt supply to something like the fuel pump etc so if " they " do get inside the vehicle they won't be able to get it started.
If a pro wants our vehicle then they will have it away using possibly a transporter.

If you are asking whether to get a dealer ( or decent garage ) to fit your items then you probably don't have the skills or tools to do so and in which case I'd say get it done professionally.

Hope it works out for you.

I'm sure you already know that if you push the lock button on the remote twice the car will deadlock so if someone breaks a window at least they can't open the doors. If you have a multispace, dark privacy tinting of the rear windows could put off people nosing about.

A mkIII has an immobiliser so would be very difficult to drive away, an alarm may help but to be honest nobody seems to take notice these days.

I've got a dash cam in my front window and Im in 2 minds wheather thats a good thing when leaving the vehicle somewhere.

On one hand its a visual deterrence as people will not know if its recording or not, on the other it could be a target to steal in itself.
