It's quite a good idea although I dislike the idea of drilling holes where they have. Wouldn't this weaken the pillars in the event of an accident, drilling through a spot welded seam like that?
I like doofer's suggestion of a blow up mattress. In fact, why haven't Citroen offered a tailored one as an optional accessory for the Berlingo? It could even have a built in 12v pump.

Where do you put all your gear if you have a blow up mattress? With the hammock I thought you could just leave everything where it is.

The good thing about a hammock is that you gain a few inches of space over the folded-down back seats and even the back of the front seats. This may be a good idea for those of us that are over 6' tall...
