Seat Belt
#1
The plastic surround on the passenger seat-belt buckle has broken. Glue has temporarily solved the problem, but wish to replace with a salvaged part.
Easy un-bolt and replace?
No!
Pretensioner...
Guessing the silver part is a small explosive charge (see photo).
What is the correct procedure for removal?
Do I need to inform the Police to cordon off the van and call the Bomb Squad?
Do I cut the red wire or the blue....
Seriously... is it just a case of disconnecting the plug and un-bolting the assembly?

Follow this link for correct procedure for battery disconnection(BSI Reset)
http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?co...ot_process

After disconnecting battery allow a minimun of 10 to 20 minutes I wait 30. Then it should be safe to unplug & remove pretensioner .
Store pretensioner in a safe / secure place.
Refit pretensioner & connect. Then carry on with BSI reset procedure.

What exactly does this explosive charge do?? I thought the belts had inertial locks and that was it. Thanks for any info.

Hello Tom, explosive charge is in a cylinder beneath the seat. Coupled to the seat belt and interconnected with the air-bag system. In the event that it is triggered, it pulls the seat belt extra taught for want of a better description, within a split second and prevents any movement of the upper body.

Tom

it pulls the seatbelt in tighter in the event of an accident, hence the name, pre-tensioner.

Hi, guys.
There's no necessity to fulfill reset for BSI. Just do like BlueBlingo said and everything will be ok.

You can buy belt buckle separately. Sparepart number 8973 GC.
Price for dealers - 45,50 €

So just disconnect battery and wait, then separate plug, un-bolt and replace. Sounds straightforward.
Can I give the removed item to the kids next door.......???

Make sure you discharge any static electricity from yourself before you unplug and fiddle with the pretensioner. Also, keep your fingers away from the cable from the seat belt buckle where it meets the bracket of the pretensioner. The cable doesn´t move far but it would make a mess of your fingers.

These things do go off with a "BANG" - having one of these go off in your hands would be a definite and immediate cure for constipation
