Cat removal?
#11
To update this I've just had my Berlingo MOT tested ( decat pipe as above fitted ) and it passed the MOT with no issues and no remark either, I know the garage owner and my usual modus operandi is for him to advise me of the slightest thing of any concern and despite this there was no problem. I'm quite pernickety about things and want to know everything in advance.

Perhaps an engineer would confirm this but i am of the understanding that the "cat" on a diesel is not tested as a petrol vehicle is ,ie, for c.o and h.o .I think the diesel vehicle only has a smoke test.Is this correct ? If i am correct i wonder why it is fitted by the manufacturer ! seems a bit of a farce to me,perhaps i'm wrong ,if i am i'm hoping that someone can advise.

You are correct in that a diesel cat is not checked for CO Carbon Monoxide and HC hydrocarbons like a petrol engine. But this does not mean the vehicle is not checked for fitment. Diesel vehicles have a visual check for cats and particulate filters, so if they were fitted by the manufacturer from new to allow the vehicle to meet its emission targets, they should be fitted throughout the vehicles life.

I'm guessing that the same people who are happy to remove the catylitic converter would be disgusted if they saw someone throwing rubbish out of the car window.

Strange ethics.

My 1.9d van 2002 has a straight 52mm pipe from manifold/downpipe to standard back-box no other form of silencer or dpf is in place , also no working egr plus I vent crankcase to atmosphere via catch-tank and plastic pipe,I have ran it like this for 5+years and have never had any problems re emissions at mot time , it runs nice and crisp but sounds a bit like a DIESEL SHOULD SOUND , also mpg did improve very slightly 1-2mpg more so must be better for the planet. ps almost forgot also always add millers eco-boost at every fill-up.
