03 2.0 HDI starter problems
#1
Has anyone had a starter failure because of a faulty ignition switch? . My ignition switch became stiff and would not return after start up,the next thing I know starter is US so replaced it.Starter was duly replaced with an aftermarket one from motor factors two days later it was toasted, a new switch comes in at £174.00 incl. vat ,my point is the starter in theory should only be getting a load when the solenoid is engaged and in that case you would hear it throwing out the pinion. HELP!

Sounds like your ignition switch has failed, they can stick in the engaged position, and the starter will be toasted in mins.
You can buy a cheap ignition switch off eBay, but you will need to transfer the immobiliser chip from you original key.
Just check the number of plugs on your old switch harness, see here for replacements
