[Warning Light] Temperature Gauge Reads high constantly
#1
Had this intermittent problem for a while where the gauge goes high and then drops back down.

I bought a new sensor but never got around to fitting it.

Yesterday from a cold start the gauge immediately went high and stayed their I didn't worry too much about it and have done about 50 miles with it like this.

The cooling fan is on constantly and that is annoying.  Today I attempted to replace the sensor after moving the ducting out of the way and disconnecting the sensor I was unable to remove it.  As a test i plug the new sensor in and left it hanging but not sure if it needs to be inserted to complete the circuit and the symptons were exactly as before.

This is a 2002 Citreon Berlingo Multispace 2.0hdi

Thanks

A good flush & a new thermostat may be what it needs.Use a good antifreeze.

Can't remember the type of sender that engine uses but there are 2 basic types, either a variable resistor between 2 pins, or a variable resistor to earth, so I expect you might have the latter type. You really need to fix properly for a real test.
I haven't got wiring diagrams with me at the mo, but I think the sender goes direct to the ECU and the ECU then controls the guage and the fan.
