If you have ever driven an old transit you will know how noisy and rattly they can be with age. A top tip for an old ford transit is for every tank of diesel you put in, put a bottle of two stroke in. makes it run quieter and smoother. it  helps lubricate the parts of the engine that the engine oil doesn't. fuel pump and the likes.

modern fuel can be quite hard on new engines. supermarket fuel is terrible. cheap and nasty. the dregs.
and modern engines have to meet strict emission laws so the engines are restricted and use silly EGR valves.

using additives in your fuel help lubricate fuel pumps and also help give your fuel a bigger bang, or a slightly higher octane level.
this helps getting rid of the carbon build up. (waste gases burn hotter with a higher octane)
your car will run quieter, smoother and also feel a bit nippier.

I have used Millers for years, my old isuzu trooper loves it. and so does my berlingo.

If you're in doubt, nip to halfords and buy a bottle of Millers, it costs about £13 and will last for a good few fill ups. (there is a petrol one and diesel)

but, if your the sort of person that fills up at the supermarket. don't bother.  Sad

and i wouldn't bother putting 2 stroke in your car either........ Big Grin

I used to use Millers and it was great at making a difference to diesel knock on my Bipper. Boosting the cetane rating did nothing, mainly because it was a 1.4 litre diesel haha. I've also been using BG244 every service for one tank of fuel to decoke the engine. I'll be using the BG244 with my lingo and probably start to use the Millers when she gets a few miles on her.

I agree with everything Dieselj says apart from it does not improve the octane rating in a diesel it is called a cetain rating and in a petrol it is is called an octane rating - hope you dont mind me clarifying this Deselj?

The other thing is if you do use supermarket fuel i would say double up on the measure of fuel additive to make up for the poor diesel you have just filled up with.

I also find i get more to the gallon - my berlingo gets about 4mpg more and so does my relay van.

Come MOT time you will have no worries with the smoke test.

I have used it neat in the fuel filter when injectors have been dirty or sticking and it works wonders.

millars really is nectar of the gods IMO and before i went into the office i was a diesel technician for Ford then ERF if that gives any credibility to my opinion.

Anyway Kokain join the club and start using some kind of additive you will be pleased with the results.

Ever since the wife got a Nectar card and insisted I only use Sainsbury's diesel I have noticed a drop in fuel consumption by about 5mpg.

I might go back to BP, it depends on if I can stand the hastle from her.

Solent.I had my own workshop for 30 years before retiring & I used to love supermarket fillers.I used to put Forte in a warm engine fuel filter & dose the tank.A half hour "mobile decoke" later, all is good.Good for MOT fails as well.Nice little earner as a chap in the trade used to quote.I now use Millers but still put Forte in every holiday for the first fill in Belgium. It does improve MPG. Hiya, I use Redex Diesel...

I started using it because when I got the Berlingo 1.9d I took the EGR and inlet manifold off for cleaning and it was totally choked up..

Adding redex every other fill up and the manifold and EGR get checked every oil change and I have only had to clean once in 60k miles.. Using the best quality oil helps a lot too... I use Quantum ( VW oil )..

I do believe that addatives reduce carbon build up, that's why I use one.. But so does using a good quality fuel, I use Shell..

i am intrigued by all of your replies, all these different brands are doing the same job ye,obviously you all have your favourites, but millers seem to be standing out, personally i have never used additives, and my lingo is the first diesel(1.9d) i have owned, its done 102,000mls so do you add some at certain intervals,or every time you put fuel in,or when it starts smoking?or trouble starting???at the moment no trouble at all, touch wood haha! thanks MY MUCKER

Never used BG244, or any other like product on my cars. I think I used some redex once in the trooper.

before buying my berlingo I was looking at a kangoo with 130000 on the clock. tidy motor. The garage where I get work done warned me off and told me to watch a few youtube vids on stuck EGR valves, stuck because of carbon build up. they said that my trooper would have a better chance of burning off carbon because it gets hot when towing and has to work hard. modern little diesels tend not to get thrashed the same and lots of people using supermarket fuels all adding to causing carbon build up.
this one owner full service history berlingo with 93k on the clock seems to run ok. I did do a full service and full tank of shell fuel with millers added. my first tank I was getting 40mpg with all of that urban and town work, no motorway. and thats both the wife and me driving.

Im interested to hear more about BG244. has anyone else used it?

the reviews seem to favour it.
