2001 1.9 Berlingo poor MPG??
#1
hi all i have a 2001 berlingo 1.9D its done 137,000k miles. the other day the petrol light came on so i put £30 in and it only lasted me 130miles until the light came on again.
Does this sound about right? as this seems very poor. if im right then is there anything anyone could suggest to improve the mpg? i dont carry much weight in there tyre pressures are fine and iv recently fitted a new air filter.

thanks in advanced.

The 1.9 isn't the most eco diesel whether XUD or DW3 but less than 30mpg is poor by any standard. Ours is a 2005 model, DW3 motor and desire trim. We struggle to get more than 36-40 mpg Just put it down to low power engine working hard and breeze block CD.

oh great! lol if i could get nearly 40mpg id be happy, i drive a tuned focus st and the idea of the van is to save more but this van seems to be using about the same! lol

is there any common faults that could be causing the low fuel consumption?

thanks

I used to get about 44mpg from the 1.9 I used to have. This was not driving it hard tho. You need to it fill it right up & calculate consumption when you fill it again to get an accurate result tho. Fuel slopping in the tank can make low fuel light come on at different times.

Our Berlingo car (year2000 1.9D) has done over 150000 and still does over 40 mpg and uses no oil between changes. It works hard too. Our 2007 Berlingo Romahome with the same engine does just 40mpg.

TBH It sounds as if your 1.9 could do with a major service where everything is checked & set up correctly by the book. I didn't do the sums but 130 miles to £30 pounds worth of diesel is not good and it removes most of the advantage of having a diesel engine in the first place.Confusedcratch: I would be looking for a reputable independent repairer rather than a main dealer. If you were in Kent
I could recommend one or two.
