Replacing the rear number plate bulbs, blimey how hard does the manual make it !!

Just started to replace all my bulbs with "LED" and started with the number plate ones, the manual clearly says :

What a faff ! yes i damaged one unit and now it's hanging and split one cover, not good at all, thought this way surely was not right, so quick check on YouTube and surprise surprise, there's a proper and fool proof way.
Now why didn't the manual say put a small screwdriver in one hole and ease to the left ??
