51 mpg?

I get 46-52 mpg with my 1.9 Multispace on my daily run from East anglia to Kent. Its usally the Dartford crossing that makes it sway more towards the 46, but if I manage to slide straight through its normaly 49.

Just to add a comparison.
My 1.6HDi turns in over 60 mpg (indicated) on a good run.
My place (Aylesford) to Leicester and back via the M1 roadworks 60.5mpg (280 miles) and today my place to Edenbridge and back 61.5mpg (50 miles).
HTH.

Just bought a red '03 m/space forte from a young lady called Rachel. As she said, it has been cosseted and is clean as a whistle. 80,000 miles, full records, no faults. Apart from..................

This is my second week driving it, and it seems to be drinking fuel. My last car was a Citroen ZX - 1.9 Diesel. Good on fuel.
But I swear I can see the Berlingo guage going down !
And then I go round the back and the tailpipe is the richest, sootiest black I have ever come across. A soft lamp black about 4mm deep. Whilst I wait for a Haynes manual to come from Amazon, has anyone any input ?

Thanks.

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

I've had my van since late January this year and it too is slow - or was.
I normally do 10 -20 mile journeys but needed the van for a longer run. I was very low on fuel so put 20 quids worth of that expensive super diesel - you know, the one that causes panic when you think you have picked the wrong nozzle. Confusedillyme:

Then I set off on my journey and absolutely caned it. Not my normal style of driving you understand. It really has made a difference to my van and it seems more lively than it was. Could be worth a try if you drive short journeys or constantly pootle along. Just make sure the oil and coolant are OK. And your cambelt

I found that Honest John thread the other day before I even signed up here, and couldn't find it again. Cheers!

Same here, I'm hoping the gauge is one of those that drops quickly then stabilises. If it's linear I'll be doing around 350-400 miles per tank of fuel. And that includes slip-streaming a truck the day I picked her up.
