I took out the white plastic piece it was in there solid and after using pliers, a drill and soldering iron I got it out. In the tube which connects the the mirror to the screen is a very strong spring (the kind you seen on brake drums) impossible to compress by hand. So I need to replace the spring with a weaker one or something shorter and solid so I can glue it.
But first I will head down to my dealer and see if there is a part available
If there was not some sort of sensor which is part of the mirror I would remove it completely and replace with a "stick on Pad" type.
