Ignition barrel/transponder problems.
#1
My steering lock jammed on me yesterday and no matter how much jiggling and wiggling, it would'nt free itself (2002 1.9D van).
Long story short, Ive ended up with another ignition barrel from a breakers and he mentioned a transponder and that I would need my old key by the ignition so it would start the car.
I spliced the new ignition onto the old cable, held the original key on top of the new one but the van wont start.
I have a 'door and key' symbol on my dash and I get a beeping noise when I try to start her up, obviously I have done something wrong.... Exclamation
Can anyone please shed some light on what I have done wrong as this couldnt have happened at a worse time (In the middle of renovating my house).
Many thanks in advance.
Socks and sandles.

This is the transponder body that fits round the key barrel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-citroe...SwZkJUTAzy
and when you insert your key the chip in the key talks to the transponder. You need to get the chip a close to the body where the wires go in for it to recognize the chip.
Are we there yet????? Huh

That's no problem sir any time. If you can get the old key apart or you can see where the chip is in the key you can carefully take it out and tape it to the transponder ring so its out of the way and under the cowling.

It would only start with the key inside of the transponder ring, anywhere on the outside and the van wouldnt start.
The key is cable tied inside of the ring under the dash as I need the van for work, but I will find the chip inside of the key later this week.
You saved my ass @Tomcat3

If you have the old type citroen key like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-Saxo-J...xypNtSfNhf
you can see where the chip is hidden, you just need a thin blade to ease the compartment out and there is your chip nice and small to tape close to the barrel. I take no responsibility if you stab yourself getting it out though lol.
Here you go this video give you an idea what you are looking at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CQyDPg0LLc

Hello
I have a Citroen Berlingo 2008 16 Diesel 75 the ignition and all the door locks have packed in its an old locking system not central locking one by one the locks just stoped working the key just turns with no effect now the ignition lock is stuck just won't turn. I can buy all the locks myself but a mate told me that if I do this the car will not start as the key needs to be programmed. The lock set comes with two new keys does anyone have any advice on this Citroen want 500 euros to do the replacement.
I have just read thee above thread, can I take the chip out of the old key put it in the new key and after I put the new Barrel in will it work
thanks
