Strange thing happened yesterday. Cleaning out the garage so started and reversed the berlingo onto the drive. Filled it up after a couple of hours started it and put it back on the road for later. About an hour and a half later went to start it, but was not even attempting to turn over. All lights on the dashboard, battery fine but no turning over.
Diagnosed starter motor, rang local car accessory shop who said couple of different types, best take it off to take it in today.
10 mins later starter motor on bench.
Decided I might as well have a look and see if anything obviously wrong inside. Cleaned all the segments on motor , then when I looked at the bushes I noticed one of the backings had come off and lying loose. Superglued it back on.
Put everything back together cleaning all of the electrical contacts as I did.
Back on the car and started.
Thats a bit of money saved for 30 mins work.

Well looks like I am going to have to take the plunge and invest in a new starter motor.
Problem is cannot find one that fits. Went to my local motor factor quoted registration number, only one choice.
Got it, but the cog on the end which engages with the flywheel is too big.
Took the reference off the existing one:

This time a choice of two, the one we already had plus alternative.
Got that one, but looked nothing like the existing one.
The existing one has 10 teeth on the cog and the outside diameter of the cog is 27.5 mm.
Went on Eurocarparts, but all on there look similar to the ones I have already looked at.
Anyone else had a similar experience.
Time to try ebay.
