So he would have to bleed it as had been previously suggested, from the hose.
And in the longer term replace the calliper to avoid future problems.

You can drill the old nipple out and fit a new one if you have the equipment, time and patience but fitting new calipers is easier. It all depends how much you want to spend and how urgent the job is and it sounds like the horse has already bolted.
So where does this bit go then ?

How did you get on with this scotia, as I'm sure others could benefit from the solution?

Sorry for the (very) late reply Col, for some reason I didn't get any alerts to say that there were posts, need to check my account settings!
In the end I had to admit defeat and get my other half to take it back to the mechanic who had done half a job on the Friday. Due to work I couldn't get in and see so unfortunately I am still none the wiser. I spent hours looking for somewhere to bleed it from and as the car wasn't at home I didn't have a clamp to try this method. The valve had somehow broken off the n/s rear and was leaking so there was a heck of a lot of air in the system and it was un-driveable almost. It did get sorted but still too frustrated by it all to have another look!
Thanks for all the help on this
