Had starting issues with my vehicle for a while now, need to turn the key 3/4 times before it will turn the engine over, wiring on ignition switch was changed 12 months ago, along with the starter solenoid, but the problem persists.
This afternoon the orange heater plug light will not stay lit, and it will not start at all, although it does turn over, anyone any ideas please?

As an update, this is a mk1 berlingo van, m49 1999 lx panel van 1.9 diesel
When i turn the key past ignition, the orange light lights, and an audible click is heard from under the bonnet, nearside, the light then goes out, is lit for no longer than half a second, the vehicle turns over normally, but will not start, all earthing points have been taken off, cleaned and replaced, any help anyone can give, greatly appreciated.
