How do Bipper`s and Nemo`s Stack up against a Berlingo ?
#1
We are still going for a 2.0HDI Berlingo if we can , but I wondered how do these little 1.4 hdi or 1.3 hdi vans stack up against the berlingo, or partners.

Can`t afford one unless sub 2.5K, just interested really for the future maybe.

We were advised to go for the 2.0HDI as in a very hilly part of the country ???? I also heard they are good in the snow. Can you put a 185/60r15 on as a good bit cheaper than the 55`s ?

Do you think engine wise a HDI 2.0 would cope better in the sticks than one of these little Bippers or Nemo`s ?

Just generally interested to hear what they are like as well.

At least you won`t have to hear the dreaded rear creaking creeping up on your ears at some point I suppose.

Looking side loading doors wise in a car-ey type beastie.

You Have Kangoo ?
Multispace.
Partner types
Bipper`s and Nemo`s.

Anything else. ( in a cheapish sense )

Thanks Mark.

PS my sons partner ( she ) trained as a mechanic for 4 years, she went to look at a Kangoo 1.5 for us and really was`nt in to it at all compared to a HDI 2.0 Berlingo she had driven before just in an overall sort of way !!!!.

PPS just out of interest when/ what year on wards did the diesel 1.6` diesels get sorted out.

The 1.6 HDi has never been a bad engine but oil changes with the right oil is soooo important. My son bought a C4 Picasso with 50'000m & the turbo went after a year. The sump was full of sludge which would never have happened if it had regular changes. Therefore a provable service history is imperative.

It not a case of the 1.6hdi being sorted out although they were modified in 2010 i think. Its more a case of when they came out the wrong oil was specified for them with 12500 mile oil changes. It started out at 10w40 semi synthetic then went to 5w40 fully synthetic until finally 5w30 fully synthetic low saps, the low saps was speced for the DPF but also helps with the egr valve.

Interestingly the new 1.6hdi's have 18000 mile oil changes and the same 5w30 is specified by Citroen but the same engine fitted by Ford is 0w30.

I think in the early days of the engine Citroen and Ford did make a mistake with the oil spec as a mate of mine still works for Citroen and he said they did change the spec on the oil to stop slugging problems.

As Ron says if a 1.6hdi has been serviced properly you should have no problems.

I spoke to a chap who sells new turbo units quite cheap the other week as we looked at a 2007 1.6.

He had sold 5 that morning and usually 15 a week or so.

He said as i`m sure is well known on here, give the engine a thorough cleaning of they can go again, very very quickly.

On oil is 5 40 fully OK on a 2.0HDI ?

Thanks Mark.
