How long typically will the DPF last?
#1
Any of you high milers with 1.6hdi's had to replace the dpf yet and if so what was the cost?

Reason for asking is for the wifes car - not my Bingo but she has the same engine with 63k on it now.

It depends on the type of use the vehicle gets but you can clean them out instead of replacing them most of the time i should not worry much about it ive seen picassos with the 1.6hdi's with DPF @ 150k+ and never had a problem.

I've done 106,000 miles in my '15' plate 1.6 Hdi L2 van and there is still no sign of the DPF (Eloys) fluid requiring topping up. I bought a top up kit from my Citroen dealer ages ago when my van was on 75,000 miles, because I thought it would need some around the 80,000 mile mark.... I'm obviously wrong! Perhaps it's because most of my miles are on motorways, and the filter runs hot enough to keep itself clean most of the time?

On some other forum I have read that you can clean them by boiling in hot
water. Don't use high pressure water cleaning. It can damage plates inside DPF.

If the above is correct than you can use them for life...

All excellent replies - i was quite surprised how cheap they are to replace. I was getting twitchy that the wifes picasso was due a replacement (according to the garage) and with this being the first car we've owned with a dpf, not knowing the full facts doesn't help.

I've heard about lorry drivers using brick acid to clean theirs? I think so long as we continue to drive her car the way we do we shouldn't have a problem. My Bingo on the other hand shouldn't ever even consider needing one since its all motorway driving.

I spent about £135 on the refill kit, and I'm eager to use it! I'll let you all know when I finally have to top the DPF fluid up! I'll still need to have "Brighty" or someone similarly equipped, to reset the onboard computer after top up. My local Citroen dealer wants £60 for 10 minutes work with a laptop to do this!

My DPF tank is finally empty for the first time at 115,850 miles. Just attempting a DIY top-up today.
