[Warning Light] BSI won't reset & other nonsense
#1
HELP!

I bought a 2004 1.9 n/a berlingo with a goosed engine.  Engine replaced but then the electrics started doing mad things, no speedo, sidelights always on, no radio, warning lights on etc.....

Anyway, in my wisdom I bought an used BSI unit from a breakers and fitted it.  Hey presto!  Lights worked fine, wipers fine, radio worked but beeped every 3 seconds, still no speedo like & it flashes stop! All the time.  Also the brake warning light is on even though they are new and the fluid is topped up and occasionally the airbag light is on.

So, last week the battery went dead so I took it off and recharged it.  On reconnecting I'm back to square one.  lights on, no radio or wiper, horns etc....  I've tried several times to do a BSI reboot but it makes no difference.

The indicator stalk is as floppy as boneless chicken though, does that have some bearing on it?

I'm getting to the end of my teather with it even though it runs like a Swiss watch!

A dodgy earth can play havoc with the electrics , Are yours OK. Engine and body earth points can be easily overlooked when changing engines as a recent poster found out

Your floppy stalk may have a bearing on it . Try unplugging it from the loom and see if it makes any difference.

The steering column acts as a earth for the horn etc , there has been problems with it not earthing

You probably don't have a bsi issue, more likely a power supply (earth or live) or some other component acting the goat, canbus runs your clocks, I've know can wires rubbing causing your issues or the com unit, if your gonna just throw money at it it will cost you a lot of money if it's wires rubbing together, get it plugged in as van faults will show up somewhere and help you pinpoint the cause (note I didn't say a diagnostic will tell you to replace a certain component, just give pointers, despite what some people say or think)  Angel

Also the bsi you bought may need to be configured for your van hence random lights on and new issues or the second hand one is goosed ?

Cheers dumdum, I was surprised that the second hand one worked straight off tbh, it was only when the battery ran down that I ended up at square one again. I shall remove the steering wheel tomorrow or Thursday, I've bought a floppy stalk fixing part and hopefully that will bring some life back into it.

I think I've checked and double checked the earths and it's not showing up any faults up on the diagnostics. I want to chuck as little money as possible at it obviously, but I want everything to work!! Smile

What diagnostics did you get it on? And who was looking at it, as your problem is indepth and needs a decent set of eyes casting over it
