Eco activated but engine stays running
#11
Ok. Good news update.

I have a tomtom plugged into the cigarette lighter. I had it unplugged for a few days and lo and behold the stop start came back almost immediately. Works fine now everytime.
Seems it cant charge both the ecodrive and a satnav atbthe same time.

Doofer, I presume you're local to Fareham since you bought yours from Yeomans? Pop up to Bardens in segensworth. They sell nothing but batteries and related products, they can advise you the best route to go.

The main reason I'm changing mine is because if it's on the way out then it's very likely that one frosty morning it just won't start at all.

I was driving a Focus before this, I had an adapter plugged in to its cig lighter with 2 extra cig lighter sockets and 4 USB sockets 2 x 2.1 and 2 x 1amp I got in Aldi/lidl, had phone charging tomtom etc all plugged it, The day I got the Berlingo I transferred it over and neither the front nor boot cig lighter socket in the berlingo would power it ??
I checked the volts and amps of the battery and seem fine within normal ranges,

Anyone else have satnavs plugged in all the time.

I might have to bring it back, still under warranty

My fabulous new OBD app shows its as being 13V when stopped, whereas the old one was 12 - 12.5V.  It also shows the alternator as 15V when it's running, as does the multimeter.  I'm actually wondering if the alternator's cooking the batteries - 15 sounds a bit high for an AGM battery to take.

By the way, every spec on the Varta label was identical to the original, so I can confirm that this is a perfect replacement part.
We have found that you regularly have to recharge the new battery before fitting Smile

A friend had exactly the same issue on his Nissan, battery failed after only a few months so the Eco Start didn't work any more until the battery was changed, although everything else was fine. I agree with Lighty about charging batteries before use. They are stored charged but will lose some charge over time, so it's best to put them on a charger before use if you can. I bought a Bosch battery a couple of years back and as I didn't need it straight away I decided to charge it, it took quite a while to get up to float charge level.
