[Brakes] Brake Caliper Bracket Mounting Bolts
#1
Hello,

I am posting this after having searched the forum, along with google-searched other forums about changing the front brake discs. I have found different views on whether to reuse or replace the T55 Brake Caliper Bracket  Mounting Bolts, and seems that some people just reuse them, some replace them every time according to service manual.

As these bolts are to be pre-torqued and then tightened by angle, I would suspect they are torqued to yield. Hence I am planning to replace them, but struggle to find replacement parts. Has anyone bought these bolts before and can point me in a direction?

Many thanks!

Unless the head is chewed up no one ever replaces them, stick some loctite on them and tighten them up and stop worrying about it, in 30+ years of working on cars I've never seen or heard of a calliper carrier bolt coming loose / falling out.

The head used to be a 19mm bolt head so they never got chewed up, but that's progress for you!

However, if you're determined to do it by the book, I believe the part number is : 4405 47 available from Citroen / Peugeot dealers.

Thanks for your reply! Having worked as a mechanical design engineer I am always concerned about tightening methods and torques for bolts - probably too much sometimes and I appreciat that practical experience often outweighs over-careful service instructions put in place by companies to cover their back. If re-using the bolts, after cleaning and app of thread locker, what tightening torque do you use?

Looking in the Haynes manual that's on the forum, 77 ft lb (105 Nm) is quoted for the bolts.

Personally I don't go in for torque wrenches that much, fair enough to get a set of head bolts all at the same starting point before angle tightening but for stuff like this, it's a short breaker bar and a good yank.

My teacher used to say that "Torque wrenches are for people who don't know how tight something should be"   Big Grin

Last set I bought had those bolts supplied in the box, sorry I can't remember the make. They were cheapies so maybe most will have them. Haynes manual refers to them as 'pins', took me 10 mins to realise they were referring to the bolts Angry Angry  In my defence, many calipers I have striped/replaced in the past had indeed got pins as part of their make up Angel Angel

Thinking about it pretty sure brand was Apec.

Jo3ey,
I think you're talking about the small bolts that come with the brake pads that bolt the caliper to the sliders?

The bolts ChippyAndBeer is on about are the big bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the hub.  Smile

I just put some Loctite blue on and tighten till my elbow cracks. Make sure you knock the Torx key in well as the heads are not very deep.
So where does this bit go then ?
