Newbie in a quandary
#1
Rainbow
Hi guys (that includes the girls), I used to share my life with a much loved 51 plate 1.9 600D. Sadly we had to part company a couple of years ago (what can I say, times were tough), but now it's time to let someone else into my life and I have to be honest, I don't know where to start. I can't afford to run a 1.9 again, so I've been looking at the 1.6HDI's, but (hang my head in shame), I really like the look of the Nemo:S I don't need loads of space, it's mostly for the dogs and for ferrying a few bits over to France and I do have a car, which the dogs are currently destroying (also Citreon I might add). I'm probably taking my life in my hands even mentioning on here that I might ultimately be disloyal, but other than knowing where to put all the relevant fluids required to run a motor, that's pretty much it. Advice anyone please before I get kicked off this site?

Hello and welcome. I looked at the Nemo model before I got my Berlingo and thought they were great, just not enough space for our needs. There are two or three I see regularly in my village. I'm sure someone will be along that has had one and can give you some advice.

If you are buying new, you won't get a 1.9 anyway, they have not been produced for 6yrs. The current Berlingo3 is somewhat bigger than the Berlingo2 & the Nemo seems to be almost as big inside as a Berlingo2 so would be a good replacement for it, I would think. 1.3 diesel with roadtax free for 1st yr & £20pa thereafter so a good choice.

We've got a Bipper van at the moment (Pug version of the Nemo) and it has served us very well, no faults (touch wood) with nearly 90k done on it in just over a year from new. We found the new Berlingo too big, without the cabin space in the back to show for it. Plus, with the Nemo, it will still take a standard sized pallet, so it is well sized for it's size... iirc: 660kg payload & 2.5m3 in the back, compared to 625kg and 3.7m3 for the Berlingo. Plus it is the 1.4HDI, perfect Wink

I notice current Nemo multispace has only a 1.3 diesel option. I'm guessing this is the same 1.3 as in the Fiat version of the car?

Thanks everyone. Nice to know that the Nemo isn't viewed with total distaste. Funds don't stretch to a new one though I'm afraid. As it's going to be my second motor, it doesn't have to be anything flash, just something that's not going to cost me an arm and a leg to run and that's not going to give me loads of hassle. I have to say that reading this forum has given me good insight into the turbo problems and at least now I wont fall into that trap.

Despite the problems voiced here and elsewhere with the turbos fitted to the 1.6, what you have to remember is that the vast proportion of people who have various Citroen
and Peugeot vehicles with that particular engine don't get any problems and that the problems seem most likely to occur on vehicle that have received indifferent service.
I bought a second hand 1.6 HDi Berlingo and the first thing I did was to book it in for a major service and inspection irrespective of whether it needed it or not and also despite
the service record showing that it had been serviced correctly.
The Nemo MultiSpace is a great little car and it shares its engines with the Peugeot Bipper. If however you went for the Fiat Qubo it would have one of the Fiat 1.3 diesel
or petrol engines installed.
At the end of the day only you know what you like and it's best to test drive a car that you're interested in. Smile

I think Nemos are great. I don't need anything as big as a mk3 Berlingo, so I would be more likely to get a Nemo if I was to replace mine.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Maybe we need a Nemo sub-section, I think they're great too, as is the Fiat Fiorino... economy and road tax very tempting too!!

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

There is a 'Captain Nemo' section on the German forum so there could be one here. The mk3 'lingo is considerably larger than the mk2 so many might see the Nemo as a better replacement for a mk2 'lingo. If you download brochure off Citroen UK website it appears only engine option now is a 1.3 diesel.
