[Engine] Overheat and antipollution?

On the 2.0, there is no turbo regulating electrovalve AFAIK. The 2.0 spins the turbo up according to RPM, and lets any excess out via a spring loaded wastegate. If you contact HDI tuning they should be able to confirm.

So maybe Lexia has seen a problem with the wiring somewhere, if so the message could be relevant in that respect.

Just a thought, maybe worth looking down the side of the battery where the wiring goes down from the ECU & check to see if any are bared or chafing?

Had a good look today but no sign of any damage. Car booked in to Bolton Citroen agent on Monday morning. I will advise their findings.

Citroen agent had the car most of Monday. When I picked it up they said they had cleared the fault messages and none had returned. Not sure what else they did but they did not charge me anything as they could not be sure the fault would not return. I drove home, 3 miles, and nothing came up so thought maybe they had cured it.

Following day drove to Colne, about 20 miles. High coolant temperature message came up within a couple of minutes while the engine was still cold. Then again a few minutes after that. Both times I was decelerating. Drove to Colne at speeds up to 70mph. No problem with performance. I had reset the fuel computer and it was returning about 42mpg which is slightly below normal, but not much. It normally does about 45.

When I got back home I decided to remove the 3 plugs to the ECU and see if any foreign body had found its way in and perhaps causing a short. I used a small paintbrush to clean out the sockets although they were very clean anyway. On reassembly I lightly sprayed the plugs with servisol, wiped off the excess, hoping that some of it would have found its way into the holes (contacts). 

Then connected my Chinese Lexia which showed 2 faults, P0116, which is the coolant out of range fault, and P1351 which showed as "Pre-post heating relay coherence". This message has never appeared before, but I HAVE noticed that on occasion the engine occasionally cranks a few seconds before starting. It normally starts instantly. Anyway, last evening I went to a meeting at 7pm, returning about 9pm, 2 miles each way. No faults came up. I am now hoping it stays that way, but would appreciate any comments re the P1351.

It is now just over a week since I cleaned the ECU plugs and sockets and the overheating fault message has not returned. I have only used the car a couple of times but have done 20 or so miles return on both journeys. I am about to replace the panel which covers the OBD socket. What's to bet the problem returns the moment I do so!

Update on this problem. It is now 6 weeks since I removed and cleaned the 3 plugs to the engine ECU and the car has been fine. I have since covered around 1000 miles. I did read somewhere that the air mass meter could produce this fault. As a result I removed it and had a look but it seemed fine. After replacing it the engine DID go into limp mode shortly after but on stopping and restarting the engine normal power returned. The yellow engine light was on so I cleared it with my Chinese Lexia. It  has been fine ever since. In fact I think it seems a little "nippier" than usual, and on a recent long journey, it returned 47.9 mpg which is a little higher than its normal 45.6
