horn push
#11
I have just yesterday completed this very job. MOT'd last night at 17:45 = pass.
Here's the saga...

Deciding what to do for a horn - and I REALLY didn't fancy ragging a wheel and inner arch off,
So, bought a horn at the local shop, grabbed some wire from the shed.
Drilled a hole in the bulkhead cross rail where the bonnet seal sits, 5 mm bolt and nut to hold the new horn.
OK, which way to bring the wire from the new push button...
Looking around there doesn't seem to be many (any?) inroads thru the b/head,
then I saw a plastic bung down to the right, dunno what it's for but that'll do me.
Right, how to get the wire down there? Only one way, behind the radio...
(If you've never done this before, it ain't hard - radio prongs to remove the radio, 2 power plugs and an aerial plug see's it out -
under the radio slot are 2 star pins which screw out easy, go to your display at the top and gently pry the front edge up, work your way along and it will un-clip, under you will see 2 more star screws, take em out, now your fascia will un-clip, go easy, move steadily down each side and it will come off in your hand)...
I stripped out the radio, and plastic fascia down the centre of the dash.
I bought a round push button (amazingly it was the exact same size as the round buttons above the radio)
I chose the centre button because my van doesn't have anything going on in that poss. (it is wired for something tho, coz the wires are in back of the trim filler)
Pulled out the round trim filler which left a square hole, my horn button wanted a round hole so I trimmed it with a junior hacksaw -
NOTE* make the hole a good tight fit so your new horn isn't loose and when you press it it wants to be firm...
OK, now comes the interesting bit - getting the wire thru the bulkhead.
If you look in the pass foot well, you'll see a carpet and on the bulkhead end you'll see a round disc shape, behind that disc shape is a plastic bung into the engine bay- I drilled a 4 mm hole at the top of the plastic bung about 10 mm from the edge (so the wire couldn't rub on the metal bodywork)
Next - tea-leaf a coat hanger off the missis and straighten it out.
Go in thru the radio hole at about 45 degrees down aiming for the hole you just drilled in the plastic disc - You'll need a second set of fingers to locate the coat hanger as it is easily caught up behind the heater motor.
Having got the c/hanger thru, now run a wire from the engine bay thru the hole in the plastic bung and have your mate hang onto it, tape it to the coat hanger and gently pull it out of the radio slot, feed it thru the hole you've made to sit your horn button, good.
Now break into a wire on the radio plug - there's a red + white one in the left corner of the plug that is constant live, (IF YOU SOLDER WIRES, TAKE THE '+' TERMINAL OFF THE BATTERY FIRST) I soldered my horn feed to that, left a good bit of spare wire to allow for the radio going back into place and fed the other end thru the new horn button hole. Don't forget to insulate the cable joint with electrical tape, don't want any stray fires under there do ya?
Next connect both wires to your horn button terminals and push the button into it's new hole,  make sure it's a good tight fit.
Back under the bonnet, connect your wire from the button onto your horn terminal and cut a bit of wire to make an earth cable from the other terminal to the bolt you hung the horn on.
Give the horn a blast and put the bits back together.
Have a brew and a satisfied smile at a job well done.
Hope this helps someone...
Cheers
George
If it ain't broke, don't 'fix' it.   Angel

To be honest, I'm not 100% certain about what I need, it was just an interest in knowing where you can buy switches that fit / match those in the centre.
