2003 2.0 HDI Poor fuel consumption

Beg to differ on the working or not.  Cleaning improved my fuel consumption and cured the hesitation, misfire/cutout.  On the other hand, if the MAF has failed, either by broken heating wires or a falied thermistor, no amount of cleaning will save it.   Contamination on the wires will insulate them, reducing the heating effect, contamination on the thermistor will reduce its sensitivity.  No way of telling which will work, cleaning or replacement unless tried. Agree on the diconnect the MAF disconnect first though, confirms where the problem is.  You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Probably worth 10 minutes work and £5 in cleaner ey. As I say the performance is perfectly good, just MPG is lower than I'd hope. About to do 50 miles from Blackpool to Manchester so perhaps I'll unplug the MAF for the journey.

So yours wasn't working till you cleaned it which was my point, his is pulling cleanly according to his post so it is working and interfering with it could actually make it worse as they are delicate.

Update;  Just done a run down to Devon and back, 700 mile round trip. Added Redex to the last three refills.  Consumption overall 48 mpg.  Not sure what it does but seems to work.

That's better than my 2.0 would do, according to the trip computer, I got about 42mpg. What speed did you cruise motorways etc at?

Update;  Just done a run down to Devon and back, 700 mile round trip. Added Redex to the last three refills.  Consumption overall 48 mpg.  Not sure what it does but seems to work.

That sounds good to me, on occasion I got almost 50 mpg

That's better than my 2.0 would do, according to the trip computer, I got about 42mpg. What speed did you cruise motorways etc at?

About 65/70, now and again 80 to overtake.  Brim to brim figures and the mileage from the odometer.

48mpg from the 2.0HDi is not bad at all.
The best in my 1.6HDi is 59.8mpg (4.7l/100km), worst 36.9mpg (7.6l/100km) and average across just over 7 years of driving is 49.7mpg (5.7l/100km). This is reading from brim->brim or whenever I fill and odometer reading. Overall I have consumed 5.5tonnes of diesel and traveled ~60,000 miles. A few thousand miles got lost due to change of instrument cluster to one with CC.

EDIT: Surprisingly, I am bang on the consumption figures by Citroen, urban 7L/100km, extra urban 5.0L/100km and combined 5.7L/100km. I guess that I mostly drive urban in winter and more extra-urban in summer (holidays in summer, etc.). (https://www.auto-data.net/en/citroen-ber...90hp-15152).

Thanks for the 2.0 hdi performance link.  I can confirm that the torque starts at about 1700, good at 1900.
