M59 roof bars/rack - flap on roof mounting points
#1
Hi. I dont mind being told the obvious but.......I have a 2003 Multispace and want to put a full length roof rack on so I need to be able to access the roof mounting points. Ive tried to open the 'flaps' by trying to lever them open but no joy.

How do they open?

Simple Simon.......

I don't know for sure but I think they don't open as such - the roof rack grabs hold of them.

I have a 53 Forte (same body shell as yours I think) and did some research on roof racks recently. The one I'll buy when I can justify it is here:

I contacted the co a while back and they were very helpful, so I would think they could give you a definitive answer. Don't be put off by it being an eBay lot, though there must be competition out there which I didn't find.

PS I've just noticed the ad says this one is no good for cars with tailgates, like ours, but they also do other versions.

They are spot welded so the 'flap' is actually the mount point.  You need specific roof bars ( I had the same with my 08 Mulitspace forte)

These are what I bought:

They don't open, the tab on the roof rack slides under them from the side. If you lever them up you will make the fitting loose.
So where does this bit go then ?
