OK having been a member of this forum for a while now it has come to my attention I am not the only old fart on here....there are a few of us..
So I thought it would be good to have a post dedicated to us "experienced" old timers.......
My daughter said when I bought my Berlingo [she is 21] OHHHHH DAD, why have you bought an old mans car......
I had to explain.....and here follows.....
It is practicable, good mpg, can carry almost everything, I can sleep inback, cook in back, I can "trend" it up, [ well a bit].
It has 3 yrs servicing and warranty free, [ my old vw camper cost me thousands in maintenance].
And I am an old fart ...NOW....ha ha
What was your reason?
Be interesting to read.....are we all the same...Experienced???? knowledgable???? OR WHAT?

First of all, I admire you in taking the first step and "coming out" (oops not politically correct), sorry, in "revealing yourself", oops both big feet again.....

I too am an old fart and proud of it and I drive a Berlingo, so does my wife (most of the time and it is registered in her name) so she too must be an old fart (female variant).

Having owned various estate cars in my driving life, my last car was a Peugeot 306 Hatch Back, nice trendy not so hot normally aspirated diesel. As far as being a practical load-lugger, forget it. Not room enough to swing a cat round. Felt as though my arse was dragging on the floor and my head hitting the roof. The seat aggravated my bad back and it was awkward getting in and especially out of.

And so begins a new chapter in motoring history as we melt gently into middle age. We bought a Berlingo, comfortable seating, easy access and egress, nice to drive, I think they are cute and cheeky, Lastly No1 rule It's my (our) car I like it and it does what it says on the box and I don't honestly give a shiny sh*te what anybody else thinks

Here's another old fart!! This is my first Berlingo or Citroén for that matter. I tend to buy a car and keep it for a long time. Last car was a Nissan Sunny 2.0 GTi. Liked it but it finally rusted out and wouldn't pass the inspection. Wife complained it was too low. So I looked around at VW, Fiat, Renault, Peugeot and Citroen. Liked VW but was too expensive for what you get IMHO. Fiat Doblo too big for me. A couple of friends have Kangoo's and always cuss them. At the time I ordered (8.2010) Citroen had some good discounts here and Peugeot would have made me buy stuff I didn't want. So, Berlingo Multispace HDi 110. Economical, lots of room and I love driving it. Wife complains it is too high . Max speed limit is 120 kmh in Switzerland, 130 in France and I don't have call to do that much Autobahn driving in Germany. I've only had mine up to 135 and still had lots of pedal and RPM left. Will leave the speeding for the Lambo and Ferrari pilots.

funny , a friend of mine has had 2 kangoooos and has really complained , especially about her last one, an 02 model. Spent a fortune on it and wants rid. Thats what put me off buying the 4x4 kangoo, which would have suited me...shame the berlingo isnt available in 4x4.

I'm not sure how you classify who is an old fart.

I've previously had a Xantia and a BX, and we decided that the Xantia was getting too unreliable/old and saw the Berlingo in a local car sales, took it for a test drive and bought it. I think it's a great car and wish we had looked at one years ago.

Well my wife has nominated me. Having not long passed 40 I think that technically I am excluded, but apparently on all other counts I should be in. My daughter (she is 10) cringes at everything from my taste in music, footwear, (correct) punctuation of my text messages, seeming bemoaning everything from why don't belts seems to hold trousers up any more, to the git who throws his rubbish out of the car window.

On the car front though, I have to admit to being not very old fartish and being a bit of a big kid. Even when I am riding around on my mobility scooter I will be seeing how it handles and thinking of a drive out in the country. Not sure yet that I could live with a Berlingo as my only/last set of wheels

The bike (that I can see) looks lovely. My biking days ended with the pitter patter of little feet. Is there not a minimum age/hair requirement though for a V twin?

Can I add to my membership claim by liking local real ales and single malt rather than lager and tequila?
