Berlingo or Tepee
#1
Hi All

After a few years of having different vans, a Renault Trafic then a Hyundai i800 we've decided to downsize. Although the i800 is a great car it's just too thirsty for today's fuel prices!

We often drive to the alps in both the winter for skiing and the summer for Mountain Biking/climbing, I still do the odd bit of MTB guiding up in the Lakes and lots of climbing/biking/paddling trips in the UK so need a car big enough to chuck bikes in the back of when we're leaving it parked up on and off doing something else.

After looking at lots of options, estates (not high enough), S-max, touran, yeti, etc the only car which seems to fit the bill and have good fuel economy is a Berlingo or Tepee, I'm looking at either xtr or tepee outdoor trim with 8-10K budget.

I've read around and noticed a few common issues tho.

- Excessive rear tyre wear
- Rattling

Does anyone know if the tepee suffers the same issues? I think it may have slightly different suspension setup?
I know this is a Berlingo forum but is there any benefit to purchasing one or the other?
Any other common issues I should be aware of?
How are people finding reliability in general?

Cheers for any advice

As far as I know they both come off the same assembly line and are the same except for the badge. Color options and package options can vary depending on country, dealer, etc.

They're the same other than the Pug has odd edges to the lights and a lot more naff-looking plastic body bits, though the XTR is pretty close in the tonka looks. sorry - I just hate the chrome/black bits. Wink New, the Citroen is a bit cheaper than the closest spec Pug. But underneath they're the same, so the potential mechanical issues will be the same.

Guanajuato as you seem to be running a 09 plate have you had any issues? How are you finding reliability/fuel economy?

Hi coziosco, If it was me id be going for the Berlingo, look how many Berlingos you see driving about compared to the Tepee. I also find the Tipee a bit plastic inside. The main two problems you get with both are suspension rattles and tyre wear. The suspension problem is the front struts which is not a big problem more annoying than anything and the rear tyre wear can be excessive, apart from that the Berlingo is an excellent car! Smile

When I was looking at buying my XTR I also went to the Peugeot garage to price up an equivalant spec Tepee, the Tepee was nearly €2,000 dearer! So guess which one I went for?

I've had it since May 2010 and not had any problems so far,no rattling front suspension and the tyres still have no sign of abnormal wear, though I do fit winter tyres from November to March.

I was looking at XTR's on Ebay this week and there's a lot about,2008 models are going for between £5-7k

Still very happy with it,great car.

No question my friend a berlingo, even with suspension niggles which Citroen uk seem to have now sorted, which one would expect with new car, I would prefer looks and inside of muktispace. As for tyre wear I personally havent had that problem, so me thinks like most new stuff you buy today it depends on which human put it together or q.a. it, Its a nice car, I came down from VW westfalia campervans, T4,T25 AND bAY WINDOW MODELS, SO its had to live up to a high expectation from me and give a sort of funky immage I like, see my pics of bull bars, tinted windows black alloys roof bars etc. I kli in france, mountain bike, kayak, camp, tow caravan etc.
good luck in your choice. If your in or near north wales and want to visit to have good inspection your welcome.

wow bad spelling, new laptop, funny keys, sorry....ski not kli....multispace...though muktispace sounds quite trendy....
