Starting a diesel when cold
#1
Ok, I know this is a dumb question, but this is the first diesel I´ve owned.

When the glowplug light comes on, do you start the car while it´s still lit or wait for it to go out? Confusedcratch:

On my mom's old VW Golf one waited until the light went out before starting. My B9 doesn't have a glow plug light but I wait a couple of seconds in any case.

We'd do it three times then start if it was the first start in the morning.

Wait for it to go off.

As Andre says, if cold, operate the glow plugs two ot three times before trying to start

The colder it is the longer the light stays on you have to WAIT until it has gone off.

In very cold conditions, I wait for the light to go out, then wait a further 10 seconds or so - always starts first time
