After Market Stereo
#1
Question
Hi, Folks,

I had a search about on these forums for specific key words but couldn't find anything - I'm sure I missed something, though! Be kind, first post, hi!

I'd like to fit an after market radio to our companies 2006 1.9D.

I am at a complete loss of what I need - I've seen a guide someone linked on here to a site that shows guides for specific cars, but the one for the berlingo looks absolutely nothing like ours Tongue

I've seen this, that says it's for 2001 onwards, would it be suitable? It says it comes with the fixing kit and a bezel (if appropriate)

I've never really done anything like this, if that wasn't already apparent.

Cheers for any help anyone can offer, really appreciate it.

The stereo on the above link seems appropriate. Best to phone the company to double check though. It will come with an iso wiring adaptor, you will need some removal tools such as this:

Disconnect the battery before you remove old stereo and follow the fitting guide on this site.... good luck!

Thanks for replying - I've already contacted the company and they said, in so many words, 'maybe'.

Couldn't find any fitting guides on these forums, I checked the how to guides forum and did a few searches, but nothing seemed to come up - Any chance you could point me in the direction of it? Smile

Any after market stereo should fit, but you tend to have to swap over the two interchangable wires on the new unit to keep the radio settings & memory.

Try searching under 'Radio'. There are lots of old threads on here about fitting new head units.

Thanks folks, if anything I feel a bit more confident about ordering something - It's not as if I'll blow the van up Smile

Radio DIN slots are standard sizes. If a vehicle has a non standard size OE radio, then adaptors plates or facias are available to enable them to fit standard radios. Wiring interfaces are available to ensure that you can fit the radio to the vehicle without having to cut wres - this also applies to remote controls if the radio supports this function.

Halfords sell these as do car audio shops. Worth having a look to see what radio you want and accessories you will need and then price them up on the net

I bought a nice Sony unit from Halfords and it was a straightforward fit however,

1. Despite it seeming a good offer it was about £20 cheaper on Amazon.
2. The Dashtop display is not compatible - I wasn't expecting it to be but mine now just shows date & time.
3. The unit does not switch off at the same time as you switch off the ignition. It seems to switch off sometime after the interior lights switch off and will come back on when you plip the remote key or open the boot.
4. The steering column remote switch does not work with the head unit
5. The buttons do not illuminate when you switch the lights on so if you have switched off the unit with the on/off button you have to fish around in the dark to turn it back on again.

The unit I bought was a Sony CDX-GT450U CD/MP3 Player and apart from the 'features' above it works fine in my 55 2.0 HDi Berlingo

Hello & welcome to the forum.

1) See my Post above.

2) Some are, some aren't. Research is needed to identify what works with what and what adapters may be needed.

3) This is due to the delay in the courtesy lights extinguishing - see also Eco=mode.

4) See 1

5) Check your manual for wiring instructions.

You haven't got it wired up correctly.

The live feed you are using is the eco mode live. Mine did that initially until I swapped the red and yellow connectors over on the unit.

The steering stick only works with an additional adaptor £20 to £30 off ebay.
