Central display
#1
Hello folks. Me newb so tell me if I do this wrong!

The radio/time display fades out completely after a few minutes and stays gone until the vehicle has been switched off for some time. The longer it has been switched off (e.g. overnight), the longer the display will last before fading (up to around 7/8 minutes). Also the clock needs resetting every time.
The dashboard display (speedo, mileometer, instruments etc) all work correctly and dont fade out.
Van is 2L Enterprise diesel 06 Reg
Only had it for 6 months & when I got it the radio wiring loom was cut clean off so no radio, no nothing. Local car radio chap sorted that and now I have radio but this central display fault persists.
Anyone else encountered this?
Thanks in advance.

Surely someone has some idea why this is happening??

I'm thinking it's got something to do with the radio harness being cut off,I don't know about the Mk2,but the Mk3 clock and date is set and adjusted via the radio.

Could be a bad earth or cable not connected somewhere behind the radio.
Just a thought.Confusedcratch:

Hello Jules and welcome.

Difficult to guess too much without seeing it, but I to would think it has something to do with the previous owner butchering the wiring.

If you feel confident, it would be worth pulling out the radio and checking the loom behind it. This is because with the factory fit radio, the central display shows radio information.

Thanks for the replies XTR and Coco. Generally these were my thoughts too. The local car radio guy that did the reconnection did a pretty good job considering the state of the loom at first and what he had to work with (How many no-id pinks..................?). I wondered if maybe he made a wrong connection, or missed one. Have to give him another ring I think.
The clock & date are set by the 2 x buttons up on the display - which I suppose are the radio , or part of it, anyway.
Any other ideas would be welcome......
Thank you for the welcome

Had similar problems when I recently replaced the factory radio/CD with a Pioneer unit. I also got the cable to be able to use the steering column controls (MK2 HDi).

Clock would keep time but "freeze" when ignition turned on, and stay at the same time until the engine was restarted. Door open warning would work, but freeze when door was shut.

Disconnecting the battery for a few mins solved the problem.

Bit of a mystery really, but I'm coming round to the same way of thinking - the wiring. It appears to be a proper radio for the van but with the wiring loom lopped off when I bought it, its a bit of a challenge. I spose Citroen would charge a small fortune .....

Sounds similar in some ways. Tried the battery disconnection thing but with no success, however it did seem to increase the pre-fade out by about 20% and caused the display to be a bit brighter (or was it my imagination??)

Hi, this is a picture of the connections going into my radio.
The white connector is for the speakers, the black one is the important one which I'll explain.
Pin 1 - no connection (nc)
pin 2 - orange (9004C) This is a communication wire which is
twisted with the wire going to pin3.
pin 3 - light blue (9005C) . Comms (see above).
pin 4 - green (XE3) This is a switched 12 volts for the comms.
pin 5 - nc
pin 6 - grey (A07B) This is a another switched 12v for the radio.
pin 7 - white (B11D) + beige (B11B) This is a constant 12v feed and
also supply's the Multifunction display.

pin 8 - green/yellow (M840) This is the ground supply (Negative).

If the display is fading out It is due to having no supply. Make sure there is 12volts on the beige wire (pin 9) at the Multifunction display connection.
Also make sure if the twisted comms wires are disconnected in the radio bay, make sure they are safe and are not shorting to earth etc.

Let us all know how you get on and what the result is or if you require any more help. Confusedalut:
