New Battery

For the past few weeks the Berlingo has been a bit sluggish when starting from cold first thing.

Only yesterday did I get a firm quote for a new battery in anticipation of the inevitable.

Come to start this morning and only just caught, think if I'd had to try again it would have been a nil-start.

Old battery is made by Tudor, a make I'd never heard of but apparently made in Mumbai or similar, according to the reviews on t'internet "total shite" and fitted as original equipment by Citroen.

Replacement is Bosch with a 4 year guarantee and from Europarts @ a shade under £77.00 inc VAT, this compared favourably with what other motor factors in the area are selling and even with a quoted trade discount card price from Halfrauds, blew them completely out of the water...

Laws of sod, it is now starting to snow heavily and too cold for an old fart to be out there so fitting it will be delayed unti lthere is a break in the weather....

Little more capacity than standard.

Never thought about trying Bowers and was down that way in the week. Didn't realise til yesterday that Smithsons are no longer Bosch agents...
Hopefully get the beasty fitted tommorow and it will have a cold start to prove itself...

Land-Rover are now owned by parent company TATA who are Indian in origin, massively into engineering and steel production. The ERF orientated commercial vehicle dealership where I used to work had also become main agents for TATA when they were first brought into the country. What a load of s**t they really were, think Q.C. was non-existent, needless to see the M.D. was keen to see the back of 'em..

Yes,but I'm going back 6-7 years ago when they were owned by Ford.
It makes you laugh when they say 'Made in Britain',assembled would be a better description,as well as the starter motors,we used to load the sunroofs,rear screens and brake discs in Germany,lighting and trim in France,body panels in Holland and lighting and sound insulation in Belgium.
Even the V8 Aston Martin engines we used to bring over from Ford in Cologne (at 22,000 each).

That's it, new battery on and away we go.... bit awkward getting my arm/wrist down in the gap to secure battery clamp but we came through unscathed... Fired up on first touch of the key.

Perhaps I am thick but couldn't work out how to undo the rather flimsy +ve battery lug then realised it is a quick-release clamp....

Lets see how she performs in a day or two's time when the newness is worn off..

I changed mine from the original Tudor a few months ago.

To be honest it was still going strong at nearly 8 years old, but changed it anyhow as I was replacing starter.

I thought it had been a very good battery so can only judge the Tudor one from experience and can't fault it.

Think this one (Tudor), on a 54 plate was manufacturers OE so it hasn't done bad either just a pity it didn't fail a bit earlier whilst under Citroen comprehensive used vehicle warranty...
