Why did you buy a b'lingo Mutli?
#1
I thought I'd tell you why I bought mine.

I used to drive a Merc Vito 115 auto LWB loads of toys and a good reliable machine it was. But it is now 6 years old and the fuel consumption is starting to bite at 27-29MPG. I do a lot of miles fixing peoples problems and quoting for work.

I worked out that the cost of a new van no maintenance, mot etc that a new van of 50MPG + would pay for itself from the fuel saving. Looking around the only van I like was the Citroen and the Partner. But the citroen was the better deal financially, 0% interest, trade in and cash off I worked out that in 3 years time the old new Citreon would be worth the same as the trade in value I got for my Merc and it's 3 years younger, so in effect £0 cost for 3 years new motoring- so financially a no brainer really.

Whilst there is little comparison in the build quality of the Merc and Citroen, the Berlingo offered good space, fuel economy and most of the toys I was used to, It is nicely styled and the wife and friends like it also. I thought the road noise was a bit intrusive but I figure if it bothers me I can add some soundproofing myself.
I think it represents good value and a I wouldn't consider myself anything like an Old Fart, but then I considered the image of who I saw driving it and it's perceived image and I remembered I'd always been a fashion leader and rebel, so it does suit me well in Black although the gold colour did tempt me, and then the Grey... Cool

I may be an "old fart" in age but again I like my style and looks. My VW T4 Westfalia was aprt of a scene , hence the way I have "be`linged" mine up a bit to be a bit trendier [younger] Black is nice but when I bought mine silver was the only colour available without a long wait.
enjoy it

We had a Xantia before the b'lingo and were looking around for a new Citroen, looked at C1 & 2, but they were 2 small for what we wanted, saw a berlingo and loved the space it had, so bought it Big Grin

Am I on drugs? or am I on "cock" drugs? Or are you stating; I am a cock on drugs?

The last Para in the quoted passage was tongue in cheek. And the rest was telling it as it is. The Berlingo represents good value, is a nice looking vehicle, economic and practical. It has a perceived Old mans type vehicle, in van snobbery it isn't up there with VW and MB but clearly that doesn't bother me since I'm happy in either.
Financially if anyone were looking for a van, buying the Citroen makes sense to secondhand, even buying it new with depreciation makes sense in my example.

And hello to you also Pete.

yes I was in similar situation, buying new for me made sense. I was offered a new one, with loads of extras for £13k last day before end of march.[garages end of month and end of financial year] Its list price was 17k , they knew I only had 13k as we had already discussed a second hand one with a few miles on clock. AND no vat. So I was contacted and told they had found one just of the delivery boat, They would make no money on it [yeh yeh I thought] but it would be another sale to them at this time of period when no more sales where expected. i WOULD GET MY CAR, and all would be happy. I had to travel to other side of London though from North Wales. The crunch was I was given ten minutes to make my mind up. Wow that was pressure.....
AND YES I decided I couldnt go wrong. It came [ 90 vtr ] with metalic paint, Modutop, parking sensors, £200 worth everlasting shine [polish], 25% tinted windows and 3 yrs service/warranty. I then had all extras put on , my black alloys, bull bar, tow bar, window deflectors, spot lights, rear bike rack.

But to see second hand ones same age going for 10 - 12k now is scary. As my VW Camper appreciated, this is depreciating. A new ball game for me.
yes I got it for 13k

How did that work out is it any good? they wanted something like £400 for glass coat and £380ish for replacement vehicle insurance for 3 yrs
I opted out of those.

Yeah I know I looked at the predicted write down on several sites but it levelled off after 3 years. So a future 3 year old vehicle worth the same as my 6 year old now seemed like a reasonable deal I have the same value I have now in three years, no MOT, no Servicing, lower insurance and lower fuel bills, hopefully nothing goes wrong with it so no costs, new tyres, brakes etc and 0% so no finance charges.
I must admit I tried to get it cheaper but the nearest offer was less on the trade in value and no money off..

You bought yours much cheaper so the depreciation risk is much less but depreciation does hurt. Lets hope more people aspire to the b'lingo in the future so that it improves the secondhand values Wink
