Personally, I think its odd. Operation of ABS, ESP etc do not effect the basic roadworthiness of a car - if its properly roadworthy and you're driving properly, they should never have to operate. Anyway, just checking the light isn't on is a rather pointless test.

As for cats on diesels, I'm yet to be convinced they are actually effective, as particulate is the main problem with diesel, rather than unburnt HCs and NOx.

The cynic in me says these have been brought in due to motor industry lobbying.:whistle:

That needs some clarification, as it is from a company website commenting on a Governmental department - it is not a direct quote.

It MIGHT well be that in next years MOT the fact that someone has removed their Cat from a diesel becomes an issue - it isn't now. Removal of one from a petrol engine is a different matter altogether. I have no direct knowledge of that or interest.

Until I see next years regs I don't propose to speculate - and certainly not on here about what "my mates second cousin" might have heard down the pub.

I have sent an email to VOSA to ask them. As Guanajuato's two links show, even the current government sites are not clear enough to give a definitive answer.
