spring loaded drive belt tensioners??
#1
Hi everybody, new to the forum, I have a 2002 1.9 converted to a freezer van.
First problem I have had since Ive had the van, drive belt went on me yesterday. mamged to limp it home and get the remains of the old belt untangled and stripped off (didnt go completely just tore itself to bits and left a thin band stilll attached.
Now I am attempting to fit a new belt but am having a problem witht the tensioner. Im not sure how far I need to push it back in order to get the pin in to hold it whilst I put on the belt. I have made the little tool up suggested in the hayne manual and have pushed the tensioner from almost horizontal round to the engine mount then slowly let it slip back whilst trying to insert the pin. No good!!!

Any suggestions?
thanks in advance, Karl

Hi, thanks for reply. still having trouble so I called on a mechanic, turns out that it is a special fit belt as it has an aftermarket freezer conversion.
Thats the good news....
bad was that when the fan belt disinetergrated a piece ended up in the cam cover somehow went, around in there for a bit and screwed the timing. cam belt nearly due anyway and the mechanic doesnt think theres any damamge to block.

Something to look out for if your drive belt goes in the future....
