Hi everyone. My awesome little 2003 1.9D Berlingo has started squealing.
It happens a bit at tickover but mostly at slightly higher revs. Depressing the clutch changes the noise. The noise stops at cruising speeds. It has a hot smell under the bonnet.
I was convinced it was the fan belt (despite fitting a new one only a few months ago)
Except when I pop the bonnet the sound and smell seem to be coming from over the other side of the engine to the fan belt. Although it is hard to tell... I hope someone can advise me on something to check.

OK, tell me more if you don't mind?
Will it blow up if we drive it for a few more days before getting booked in to be sorted?
Is it a big job? Could I do it? (I can do servicing and things like fan belts etc. I have done a clutch and a gearbox before but they were a bit of a challenge and I didn't really enjoy.)

Oh no!?! That sounds intense and expensive. How much do you think I should pay to have this done?! Many thanks.

I just looked on the Citroen site and was horrified to see £599 shown for a Berlingo clutch replacement!

Thats disgusting, I would look around local to you see what you can find.

I just got quoted the same by my local garage. Rip off, the clutch kit is only £50ish.
I'm going to shop around. Worst case scenario I'll try and do it myself but I'd really rather not.

I've just booked it in at a place for £270 which I think is much more reasonable.

That sounds more reasonable, let us know what they find.
