Yeh! The registration number on the Pontiac dates it to July 1971. Not '69...

Wow. Correct.:woop:
Well done you!
The Firebird is a '69 and was purchased new in California by an American serviceman who shipped it to this country (on USA plates) when he was posted to a base in the East of England. We believe he spent 2 years here, as it was sold by him in 1971. It was obviously then registered in this country, but on a private plate (6 FPP, which is now for sale on regtransfers.co.uk for £6,995!). This stayed on the car until 1985 when it was registered incorrectly as a '71, not a '69. (The DVLA were getting things wrong 27 years ago, too!)Confusedillyme:

Nice Spot Jeffers! Confusedalut: I missed it (blame it on the fact I was either aged -3 or -5 so didn't know any better!)
1.9d Mk2 (M59/BE4/5) with battle scars from a conservatory attack. Previously owned a 1.4i Mk2 Forte.Confusedalut:

I dont think DVLA did get it wrong, the rules at the time were any car being registered for the first time in the UK got a reg no. applicable to year when registered. I bought a Opel Olympia , early 50s model for 10 shillings (50p) in 65/66 which had been brought in the UK from Germany and it was registered on a 1965 plate ©. It did not need a MOT until 68. Served me well for 4 years though spares when needed were a problem, think I had to send to a london dealer for them.
