New owner of 07 1.6 hdi
#1
Hello folks,

Im new to the forum and berlingo ownership.

I have trawled the forum looking at all the hints and tips for owning the 1.6 hdi engine and have found it very informative.

I have a 2006/7 1.6hdi with 61000 on the clock which seeems to be very straight the body work is rust free and the engine seems smooth and strong. i am going to convert to a camper but am a bit aprehensive after reading reports about turbo problems with this engine model. (not sure about spending the money on converting a flawed engine)

Other than using good quality oil and regular servicing are there any other things i should be looking out for.

i filled up and have done 351miles and the fuel needle is sitting between 1/2 and 1/4 so i guess ill get about 500 on this tank which im happy with.

There are no noises or clunks and there is a lot of power compared to my old T4.

The model is a Berlingo Desire 1.6hdi 90, silver with roof rack.

Im sorry for the long post but im just curious.

Thanks....Dave

There are millions of these 1.6 diesels about in UK/Europe fitted in not just Citroens but other makes, Ford etc. I guess most of the ones that don't go wrong are the ones that have oil changed at correct interval with correct oil used. What you read about on internet forums is about the tiny minority that do go wrong. Welcome to the forum. Big Grin

Like you, Dave, I'm new to Berlingos, and have a '56 1.6HDi. I was a bit concerned at the failures I've read about with these engines too, but have decided not to worry about it .....if I can.....

The car was Citroen dealer serviced from new, and although you hear good and bad about dealers, because I have no reason to doubt them or the integrity of the engine I'm just going to plug on,
keep the servicing up together, use the correct oil, keep it topped up, and hope for the best. If something big still goes bang, well, 'c'est la vie' as they say where Berlingos come from!

My last car was a Saab 9000 turbo, and although I heard of turbo failures on that model too, mine had done 175,000 miles on Mobil 1, didnt drink or burn a drop of oil at all, and still pulled like a train.

The Berlingo is a lot less thirsty than the Saab, so maybe I should be happy at the fuel savings, and not fret about something that may never happen!

Good luck, and enjoy your new motor!
