Brake pad deal
#1
My XTR which I purchased last September has just passed its first MoT but I was advised that the offside front inner brake pad has worn much thinner than the others, suggesting perhaps a sluggish release which means the whole set should be changed pretty soon . My dealer mentioned their special deal for changing a set of pads for £95. Can ayone confirm if that's about right? I have a very good bloke who normally services my cars on the drive, or takes it away if anything more serious needs doing but as my car still has three months guarantee left I feel it might be wise to use the dealer for this job if it is reasonable and assuming they will investigate why it is sluggish.

if i was you i would let dealer have a look under warranty , maybe it needs a new caliper or something i am not too sure but if it under warranty save every penny you can. :-)

I'd go with the dealer under warranty as well. There is clearly something amiss if a pad is wearing that abnormally and you might as well get it fixed for free.

As its over three years old , the manufacturers warrantry will not apply. The dealers warrantry will not apply as wear and tear is not covered, dont know if anything is covered with these warrantries except those items that never break. and the pads , ( "dont assume, it lets you doon" ) will just be changed unless something really wrong jumps out at the chappie doing the pad change.
£ 95.00 just for pads is quite dear, your man would be able to do them on your drive cheaper.

Thanks folks for all your replies, most of which confirm my gut feeling to stick with the dealer until the guarantee expires. I'll quiz them, though, as to whether something like a dodgy brake caliper would be considered to be wear and tear. I wouldn't expect calipers to actually wear in just over 26k miles. Brodfather11: When I bought the car they gave me an extended full Citroen warranty to make it up to a full year but if that's not going to cover any other components beyond the pads then you're probably right, my man would be cheaper. Cheers to all.

95 quid at a dealer isn't that bad for front pad renewal.

What id be wary of is this, the pad change might only be 95 quid, but how much for them to diagnose and fix what ever caused the pad to wear quicker than the rest?

I'd be using your regular guy, you can 100% trust him right?

Just thought I'd add: I've tried twice to get hold of the chap I dealt with to ask if something like a brake calliper would be covered under guarantee and both times was told they would get him to ring me back. As I haven't heard from him still, no prizes for guessing who gets the job. I should say that I'm a bit surprised as the dealings and support I've had with Barretts of Canterbury since buying the car, especially over the suspension rattle, have been second to none. This time I was left with the feeling that 800HDI was right in his last post. Thanks again to all.
