Loose fabric armrest
#1
Hi,
As Victor Meldrew says " I don't believe it!".
Today I visited my Citroen main dealer where I bought my B9 Berlingo multispace from just over three years ago to get advice on the repair to the fabric armrest which had partially dropped down and is loose in the frame of the internal front hinged door trim panel.
After examination by a customer advisor he told me that the armrest would be factory bonded to the panel and that that the only thing they could do would be to replace the complete internal door panel (armrest included) for the grand sum of £277.63 including £206 for the panel. Ridiculous!
When I suggested that they could remove the panel and stick the armrest back in (it is not damaged in any way) I was told they could not do this because they are are no experts in plastics bonding!
What a load of nonsense. The truth is they would rather simplify things for themselves at the expense of a loyal customer because they cant be bothered or work to some bureaucratic system which leaves no leeway for common sense.:brickwall:
So I will try to carry this out myself if possible with a bit of help from any members who can give me some advice about removing the panel and trim and and in particular the door handle without causing damage to the silver/blue trim.
If I can remove the handle the rest of it appears to be relatively simple ( I was given an exploded diagram with the estimate)
Any advice would be appreciated. Thankyou.

You could look up an auto upholster in your area and let them have a look at it.

A possibility, yes - but if someone can just tell me the best way to remove the door handle without damaging the trim, the rest should be doddle.Thanks.

There are a few threads on here showing speaker removal from doors including door trim, with photos that may assist you. Sorry I dont have the links to hand.

Yes indeed, and it bet it's changed a lot on here. My problem is that I can remember reading this and that, but can never remember what threads messages are in :brickwall:

I am pleased to report that with the help of Trevor and raadio13 who posted photos of removal of the Berlingo door card that I have saved about £260.00 today!:woop:
The nylon trim removal tools from eBay arrived this morning(£6.49-delivered), I already had some contact adhesive plus a hot glue gun so no real cost there, I broke only two hog ring clips when removing the card but was given a couple from a Mazda which fitted treat, a couple of hours work and its job done.
Guess what? I am no expert in plastic bonding just like the man at the main dealer also said but I must say that it is no surprise that the armrest fell out. The door panel trim appears to be "thrown together" with absolutely nothing except for the thinnest bonding for the armrest and other bits holding it together!
Anyway thats it apart from thank you to the customer advisor Rob for the exploded view of the door panel.....
