Is there one on the 1.9D? It's just that mine seems to run out of go about 4200 rpm which is a bit low as the red l;ine on the tacho is 5000. It's as though someone pulled out the choke. As it's got no power below 2000 rpm it doesn't give a huge rev range to play with.

Ah, you've got a redline on yours, there's not redline markings on the rev counter whatsoever on our l.6 hdi, so anybody not too mechanically savvy is going to think - no limit, so is this just a French thing or what?

Think we've been down this road before....
It's a 1.9d.
It has (had) 69bhp.
It does 0-60 in 16 secs.
Maximum torque around 2500rpm.
And max power at about 4600rpm.
Has it been to the moon and back?
Good service history?

It seems to have a reasonable history, it's only done about 110k and it can't reach 4600 rpm. And what's more I've just serviced it (it's not made it worse before you ask) so it's got good oil, clean air, oil and fuel filter. It seems worse in second than third.
Put it another way, my 1.9D BX (which was slightly less powerful according to one set of specs I've seen) was considerably more free reving and that was on its way to 150k.

I think it's the engine mapping. Mine shuts off at 3200 rpm, great when you're overtaking. My mates Shitroen van is the same.
Could be to save fuel, or it might be so they can sell us more powerfull variants of the same engine.

Well I gave it some welly yesterday and it got up to 4800 albeit with a bit of a cough. Perhaps it's got used to being driven slowly (which is pretty much what I do anyway) and needs a bit of vavavoom to get it back to normal. I do try an Italian tune up every now and then.
