Front wheel play

Think I'd go for the lower ball joint.
From experience, you can hear rumbling noise when running if it's the bearing.
If it is the bearing, like CG said - your gunna need a decent press and some heat! unny:

No they only rumble if they start to break up, they whine if they dry out.

But if its worn from mileage there's no noise.

Changed 2 recently on the front of a 02 avensis, 10 mm play in the wheel

No noise whatsoever

Ok, if it's the bearing, lift the wheel of the ground and see if it's got vertical rock.cratch:

I changed the wheel bearing and now everything is fine.
Both outer and inner race got stuck so it was a lot of work with a Dremel before getting it out. Thanks for helping.

Bit late in the day to offer advice, but I find it's easier to take the bearing to a local garage to be pressed out/in - they usually charge about £15 which is well worth it for the trouble it saves you.
